Discount Column in Tally Prime

1. Enabling Discount Column

  • Go to Gateway of Tally → F11 (Features) → Inventory Features.

  • Turn ON “Use discount column in invoices”.

  • Choose Discount Format:

    • Percentage

    • Amount

    • Both Percentage & Amount

This allows the discount column to appear in sales/purchase vouchers.

2. Applying Discounts in Sales Vouchers

  • Navigate to Gateway of Tally → Vouchers → Sales (F8).

  • Select Party Ledger (customer).

  • Enter Stock Item → Quantity → Rate.

  • In the Disc% column, enter discount percentage or amount.

  • Taxes (GST/VAT) will be calculated on the discounted value.

3. Using Discount Ledger (Alternative Method)

  • Step 1: Create a Discount Ledger

    • Gateway of Tally → Accounts Info → Ledgers → Create.

    • Name: Discount Allowed.

    • Group: Indirect Expenses (or relevant).

  • Step 2: Record Sales Voucher

    • Add items with Quantity & Rate.

    • In ledger allocation, select Discount Ledger and enter discount amount.

  • Step 3: Apply Taxes

    • GST is calculated on net value after discount.

  • Step 4: Save Voucher

4. Types of Discounts in Tally Prime

5. Example Scenario

  • Product A: ₹500 × 10 = ₹5,000

  • Product B: ₹300 × 5 = ₹1,500

  • Subtotal = ₹6,500

  • Discount 10% = ₹650

  • Net Value = ₹5,850

  • GST @18% = ₹1,053

  • Final Invoice Value = ₹6,903

Important Notes

  • Tax is always calculated on discounted value.

  • For item-wise discounts, use the Disc% column.

  • For overall invoice discount, use a Discount Ledger.

  • Ensure security of discount entries (avoid misuse by staff).

  • Discounts can be tracked separately in accounts for reporting.
